ABOUT

Hi, I'm Gregmar Newman !

My name is Gregmar. I was born and raised in the northern coast of Venezuela, where I started my professional career as a Materials Engineer. Then, I moved to the UK to start a family and pursue a Masters and eventually a PhD in the same field. In 2004, we packed up our little family and moved to Toronto, Canada, where we have been living ever since.

It was here in Toronto where my yoga journey started. I have always been fascinated by movement. As a Latin person, I started dancing before I learned to walk. Dancing and running were always my favourite ways to move. That is, until I was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis of my lower back as soon as I landed in Toronto…that was the end of my running and the beginning of my yoga journey. I immediately fell in love with the physical practice that was healing my body, but it wasn’t until I went beyond the asana and started diving deeper into the spirituality and philosophy of yoga that I could fully appreciate the benefits of the practice; and understand that yoga is a way of life that enables me to continue to reflect, to feel and be present.

In 2017, I completed a 300-hr Yoga Teacher Training at Ahimsa Yoga Toronto under the guidance of JP Tamblyn-Sabo and the rest is history…I have been regularly teaching yoga since, and my curious mind has taken me to continue studying and learning as much as I can. Borrowing Rick Hansen’s words “I am scientifically grounded, but driven by wisdom”. I have been fortunate to cross paths with amazing teachers who have influenced and helped shape my style of teaching, and continue to journey and learn from them.

As a gesture of gratitude to all my teachers, I hope to share my passion and love for Yoga, Yogic Philosophy, Meditation, Ayurveda and Reiki to continue to inspire others on the path of healing and integrating these practices into their daily life.
